GRADE 9 VISUAL ARTS

Grade 9 Visual Arts encourages students to develop their skills in producing and presenting art by introducing them to new ideas, materials, and processes for artistic exploration and experimentation. Throughout this course, students will apply various design elements and principles as they expand their creative process. They will also learn to critically reflect on and interpret art within personal, contemporary, and historical contexts.
GRADE 9 INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS

Introduction to Business (BBI1O) introduces students to the world of business, including the concepts, functions, and skills required for operating a 21st century business of any size or scale. Throughout this course, students will also learn key concepts relating to personal finance, entrepreneurship, and international business.
GRADE 9 INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY IN BUSINESS
Prerequisite: None
This course introduces students to information and communication technology in a business environment and builds the foundation of digital literacy skills that will be necessary for success in a technologically-driven society. In this course, students will have the opportunity to develop their digital literacy, including effective electronic research and communication skills. They will also explore current issues related to the impact of information and communication technology.
GRADE 9 ISSUES IN CANADIAN GEOGRAPHY
Prerequisite: None
Grade 9 Canadian Geography examines interrelationships within and between Canada’s natural and human systems, looking particularly at how these systems interconnect with those in other parts of the world. Throughout the course, students will explore environmental, economic, and social geographic issues relating to topics such as transportation, sustainable energy choices, and urban development. In doing so, students will learn to use geographical concepts and spatial technologies to investigate various geographic issues with the overarching focus of making Canada a more sustainable place to live.
GRADE 9 DE-STREAMED MATHEM
Prerequisite: None
This course enables students to consolidate, and continue to develop, an understanding of mathematical concepts related to number sense and operations, algebra, measurement, geometry, data, probability, and financial literacy. Students will use mathematical processes, mathematical modelling, and coding to make sense of the mathematics they are learning and to apply their understanding to culturally responsive and relevant real-world situations. Students will continue to enhance their mathematical reasoning skills, including proportional reasoning, spatial reasoning, and algebraic reasoning, as they solve problems and communicate their thinking.
