GRADE 12 BUSINESS LEADERSHIP

Prerequisite: None

BOH4M focuses on developing the leadership skills used in managing a successful business. Throughout this course, students will analyze the role of a leader in business, with a focus on managing group dynamics and motivating employees, dealing with workplace stress and conflict, as well as decision-making and planning.

GRADE 12 BUSINESS AND TECHNOLOGY ENGLISH

Prerequisite: ENG3U, Grade 11 English or ENG3C, Grade 11 English or ENG3E, Grade 11 English

EBT4O emphasizes the kinds of practical writing and communication skills needed in the world of business and technology. Throughout the course, students will analyze the characteristics of effective models of business and technical communications, all the while gathering information to write reports, business letters, memos, manuals, instructions, and brochures. They will also learn how to integrate graphics and text, using technology appropriately for formatting and special effects.

GRADE 12 COMPUTER SCIENCE

Prerequisite: ICS3U, Grade 11 Computer Science

Grade 12 Computer Science allows students to further develop their knowledge and skills in computer science. In this course, students will be asked to use modular design principles to create complex and fully documented programs according to industry standards. Throughout the various units, students will work through the steps of managing a large software development project, from planning through to project review. We will also investigate some of the ethical and environmental issues in computing and discuss emerging technologies, areas of research, and careers within the field of computer science.

GRADE 12 MATHEMATICS OF DATA MANAGEMENT

Prerequisite: MCR3U, Grade 11 Functions or MCF3M, Grade 11 Functions and Applications

Grade 12 Data Management (MDM4U) broadens students’ understanding of mathematics as it relates to managing data. Students will apply methods of organizing and analysing large amounts of information; solve problems involving probability and statistics; and carry out a culminating investigation that integrates statistical concepts and skills. Students will also refine their use of the mathematical processes necessary for success in senior mathematics. Students planning to enter university programs in business, the social sciences and the humanities will find this course of particular interest.

GRADE 12 EARTH AND SPACE SCIENCE

Prerequisite: SNC2D, Grade 10 Science

Grade 12 Earth and Space Science takes an in-depth look at our amazing planet Earth and its place in the universe. Throughout the course, students will investigate the properties and forces of our solar system and analyse some of the techniques scientists use to generate knowledge about them. In doing so, students will examine Earth’s basic materials, its geological history, and how its systems interact and change over time.

This course focuses on enabling students to refine their use of the creative process when creating and presenting two- and three-dimensional art works using a variety of traditional and emerging media and technologies.

This course focuses on the use of social science theories, perspectives, and methodologies to investigate and explain shifts in knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviour and their impact on society.

Grade 12 Computer Science

Prerequisite: ICS3U, Grade 11 Computer Science

This course enables students to further develop knowledge and skills in computer science. Students will use modular design principles to create complex and fully documented programs, according to industry standards.

Grade 12 Calculus and Vectors

Prerequisite: Proof of completion or enrollment is MHF4U

This course builds on students’ previous experience with functions and their developing understanding of rates of change. Students will solve problems involving geometric and algebraic representations of vectors and representations of lines and planes in three dimensional space.

Grade 12 Advanced Functions

Prerequisite: MCR3U, Grade 11 Functions

MHF4U extends students’ experience with functions. Students will investigate the properties of polynomial, rational, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions.

Grade 12 Ontario Secondary School Literacy

Prerequisite: None

This course is designed to help students acquire and demonstrate the cross-curricular literacy skills that are evaluated by the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). Students who complete the course successfully will meet the provincial literacy requirement for graduation.

Grade 12 Biology

Prerequisite: SBI3U, Grade 11 Biology

This course provides students with the opportunity for in-depth study of the concepts and processes associated with biological systems.
